    Being a better cleaner

If you have ADHD, or know someone with ADHD, you all know how these individuals don’t like cleaning. It’s a task that I avoid as much as I can, and I’m sure I’m not the only one with ADHD who loves to avoid cleaning. Yes, we all know that it’s something that we have to do. We all know we shouldn’t be leaving dirty dishes in the sink for months. We know we have to take out the garbage and recycling. We know we have to do laundry, fold them and put them away. As adults, we know that these are all things that we need to do and are…

    Planning

Planning can be challenging and isn’t always something that we want to do. Yet, as adults, it is still something that we have to consider and thing about. There are so many things that require planning. We have to plan the amount of time it’s going to take us to get to work. We may need to plan meals for the week. We need to plan our grocery list. There’s just so many things that we need to plan for. As much as it’s not something we always want to do, it is something that can be beneficial. Let’s face it, planning your trip to the grocery store and making…

    Getting Ready for Christmas

There’s about a month before Christmas. Okay, well, maybe a little less than that, but you get my point. The countdown is going down to the holidays. A time when things can be stressful for a lot of people. Christmas has always been a stressful time for me. I don’t know if I want to say more so than it has been for others. But I think it is in a different way that it can be for others. I feel that those who have ADHD may get stressed and anxious about the holidays in a different way. There’s just so much to the holidays that is involved. Planning is…

Things I wish I was told when I was first diagnosed

I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 12. My parents told me that I fell under the inattentive type. This meant that I had trouble focusing and remembering things. I’m sure they also explained that there was also the hyperactive type. I imagine they did, as the conversation was so long ago and I don’t quite remember all of it. But I was aware of both these types of ADHD. For the longest time, that’s what I associated my ADHD with. I associated with difficulty focusing and remembering things. However, while doing research of my own, mostly for this blog, I have discovered that it’s a lot more than…

Oh shoot! Where did the time go?

I know I’ve been very quiet the last few weeks, and I’m sad to see how little I’ve been able to post on this blog over the last few months. I feel like I’ve definitely neglected this blog, which was something I never wanted to do. When I first started this blog, I had committed to post at least once a week. Well, the last few months have shown that things didn’t go quite as I had planned. I have definitely dropped the ball and not managed my time well at all. There are various things going on in my life, and I have definitely struggled to make time to…

    My Journey with Acceptance

Over the last month or two, I’ve done some thinking about myself. And about my ADHD. Although I was diagnosed almost 20 years ago, I still can’t say that I ever really came to terms with it. I do still struggle with it. I’ve pretended that I don’t have it. There have been so many times, when I’ve wished I didn’t have ADHD. But the fact is that I do have ADHD. It is a part of me. It is a small part of who I am. Over the last few weeks, I’ve realized that I do have to come to terms with it. That it is a part of…

    Motivation, or lack thereof

We all have days, when motivation just isn’t there. We all experience this, one way or another. We are only human, after all. However, for those of us with ADHD, it does affect us in different ways. On the one hand, when there is something that we are interested in, or enjoy doing, individuals with ADHD have no difficulty doing it. In these situations, we have the motivation to do these tasks like anyone else. However, the opposite is just as true. If a task needs to be done, which is dull or mundane, kids and adults with ADHD have very little interest and motivation in doing them. We will…

    Getting into the routine

Like many kids in the area, my girls went back to school last Friday. So, for the last week, we’ve gotten used to the whole school/daycare routine, which involves making lunches, getting them dressed, make them breakfast, and bring my girls to the bus stop and my son to daycare. Having a routine can be beneficial for a lot of people. However, it can be extra helpful for kids and adults with ADHD. I’ll be honest, it can be really nice to have a routine set up. The reason why it can be so beneficial to have a routine, when you have ADHD, is because it helps the individual with…

    ADHD stereotypes and misconceptions

When it comes to ADHD and people who have it, I feel that there are quite a few stereotypes and misconceptions. Things that do negatively affect those of us who do have it. There are just so many things that people think they know about ADHD, which are just inaccurate. People may say that people with ADHD are lazy, that ADHD isn’t real, that we’re all a little ADHD sometimes, or that we just need to try harder. Believe or not, all of these are not true. People with ADHD aren’t lazy, ADHD is absolutely real, we are not all a little ADHD sometimes, and those of us with ADHD…

    School’s out for the summer

Today is the last day of school for my girls, along with everyone in their school, and so many others in the area. I know some finish earlier in some places. However, for them, today is the last day and the beginning of their summer break. No school until the end of August. It is definitely something that so many students look forward to. And I can’t say as I blame them. I did too, when I was a kid. However, for those of us, who are parents, it is a little different. As much as I do enjoy summer, warm weather, and all that comes with it, the summer…
